@Cheryl, last year I attended your Kripalu retreat online. I have to rave… it was one of the most nourishing workshops I’ve ever taken. (I may come back in person this year.)
If you haven’t written with Cheryl, do it! Best best gift you can give yourself. Xx
As long as we never lose our voice and the power of that voice, we can survive almost anything. That’s the thread I’ve used to stitch my forth coming memoir, Maya Blue, together. Our voice is our super power but we must use it to stand for what we believe. In Greece last summer, you and Brian, and Rachel and Zayd read a powerful piece that inspired us all so bravo for taking a stand. “Hang in there.” We’ll get through this, Cheryl. We will. xoxox, B
I'm laughing so hard because I was JUST now telling my husband how hard the frikkin dead hang is for me...but still, I persevere! Grip strength for all us mid life people!!!!
I have a hanging bar! To help with hand and arm strength. I call it “my pull-up (ha!) bar” because that ain’t gunna happen. And I put a foam roll protector on it to save my hands. Duct taping a soft microfiber cloth sort of worked. Good on ya!!
That's so funny. I started the plank challenge and my own dead hang challenge just after the New Year, but I gave up after a week. You've inspired me to get back to it.
See you in Buffalo! Wave to the cheap seats up in the balcony. We'll be up there. <3
Keep calm and dead hang on, Cheryl. I love the simplicity (and daunting-ness) of this commitment. In a similar vein, I opted to start doing 15 push-ups a day. I can run and hike forever but I retired from 17 years as a massage therapist (a few years ago now) and miss my working forearms! On that first day I came very close to breaking my nose as my twiggy arms nearly let go!
Looking strong and lionhearted and full of wisdom that I wish you didn’t have to go through the fire for but burning it was and phoenix you did and benefit we do. 💪 🔥 ❤️🔥
As yours have touched my deep-marrow, and as I have read them to others, so your words which moved me have moved them in turn and so on. Such generous ripples. 🥰
I actually have the cutest picture of you and I at the San Miguel writers Conference waaay back...if only I could excavate it from the cloud or the computer or wherever it is our old pics end up
Hi Cheryl, love your work! I'm wondering if you paused your paid subscription status? I don't see the option to upgrade anywhere, and Substack customer service tells me that if that's the case, the author may have paused taking subscriptions.
I did! How odd that it doesn't say that on the sign up page! I'll see if I can make that more easy to see. I'm just doing the free newsletter right now. Thanks for your kind words!
Come back to Virginia one day! Sheila and I still spook around VCCA like ghosts. xo check out The Conceptual Artist’s Cookbook. Recipes for art and food 🙂

Thank you so much, Barbara! That means the world to me. I hope you join us again this year!

Signing up for the online option—just what I need for a kickstarter for my summer!! Thanks!
I'll be at the writing retreat in Boone—with two dear writing friends meeting me there—and I can't wait.
Wonderful!

Can't wait to have my first writing experience with you in Collioure! The dead hang is a good lesson for these times. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Cheryl, nice to see you here - and great to see that you are heading for the Blue Ridge. You may remember me from VCCA.
Hi Craig! Of course I remember you! So nice to see you here! I hope you’re well.
